WALKS & Talks
Chatting with people about cool plants is one of my favourite things to do! It’s always a joy to see people’s eyes light up when we discuss carnivorous plants and other plant adaptations, botanical art and history, women in botany, and so much more. If you’d like me to speak for your school, community group, conference, or event, please do get in touch!
Community talks & guided walks
Over the years, I’ve given talks and guided walks for various community groups, schools and events, including the Friends of Kings Park, Kings Park Volunteer Guides, WA Naturalists Club, Wildflower Society, Kimberley Society, Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council, the University of the Third Age, Perth Science Festival, Kings Park Wildflower Festival (Wildflowers & Superpowers exhibit), and a 5-lecture series for the Mature Adults Learning Association!
workshops & Teaching
Want to do something a little more hands-on? I’ve led a variety of botanical workshops (usually with a special focus on carnivorous plants), with audiences of all ages, including Carnivorous plant art workshops for Swan Libraries and the Herdsman Lake Discovery Centre.
I’ve shared my research at various primary and high schools throughout Perth, and as a guest lecturer for the University of Western Australia’s unit PLNT3301 Plant Physiological Ecology (2017-2019). I’ve also loved teaching as a lab demonstrator for PLNT2204 Plant Diversity and Evolution (2020) and tutorial leader for SCOM1101 Communicating Science (2018-2019).
conference Talks
Throughout my PhD, I’ve had the joy of attending and presenting at several academic conferences, including:
The Botanical Society of America Conference, Evolution, ecology, development, and conservation of carnivorous plants colloquium, in Minnesota, USA (2018)
The International Carnivorous Plants Society Conference, in California, USA (2018)
